Design and Build

The Pixel 9a uses a matte polycarbonate back — it is lighter and more grip-friendly than the glass Pixel 9. At 183g and 8.9mm thin, it fits comfortably in hand. IP68 water resistance and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front protect against drops.

The Tensor G4 with 8GB RAM handles all daily tasks smoothly — social media, YouTube, multitasking. Gaming runs well for casual titles. For 3D gaming, the Snapdragon 8 Elite in competitor phones pulls ahead. But Tensor excels at on-device AI — transcription, translation, and Call Screen all run locally.

Camera System

The 50MP main sensor with f/1.68 aperture captures stunning detail in daylight. Night Sight remains the best low-light phone photography available at this price point. The 13MP ultrawide is solid. Missing: telephoto (the Pixel 9 Pro has 5x). Video goes to 4K 60fps with excellent stabilization.

Battery Life

The 5100mAh battery easily lasts 2 days of moderate use. Google reduced fast charging to 18W wired (the Pixel 9 gets 27W), which is a compromise. Wireless charging at 7.5W and reverse wireless charging for earbuds round out the charging features.
